It covers both equipment and connectivity used in LANs (Local Area Networks) and WANs (Wide Area Networks), and the architecture of the different types of networks, including topologies and connections. Protocols and communication layers are covered, as well as network management systems. Analog and digital transmissions are compared, and types of transmission such as packet switching and switched networks are defined.
